Do you have a preschooler about to start school for the first time this year? Here are some tips every parent should think about.
1- READ A BOOK ABOUT STARTING SCHOOL
There are a lot of books out there that will help you and your child understand the first day of school and help to relieve any first day anxiety.
2- TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT THE BEHAVIOR YOU EXPECT
It's never too late to remind your child of good behavior practices such as sharing, saying thank you, no biting, and telling the teacher if someone is bothering them.
3-START YOUR BACK TO SCHOOL SCHEDULE NOW
Now is the time to put your children on a schedule that will help them to adjust to the beginning of school. Some of the things you can do are: an early bed-time, routine nap time routines and lunch routines. Putting your child on a routine schedule will help the family and the child adjust to school better.
4-PREPARE A SPACE FOR YOUR CHILD TO DO HOMEWORK
Set up a place for homework that is quiet, has a table, chair, shelf, baskets for your child's books and extra school supplies. Make sure you talk to your child about that being their special place and the importance of no distractions.
5- GET YOUR CHILD EXCITED ABOUT STARTING SCHOOL
Start your child off right by expressing your excitement and singing the praises of them starting school and the fun they are going to have. When your child sees you're excited about school, they'll be excited about school and everyone wins!
